Keith Pearson appeals the district court’s summary judgment for his employer, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), on Pearson’s claims of employment discrimination and retaliation. We affirm.

The MBTA operates the Boston subway and bus system, and employs Pearson, who was hired in 1990 as a “maintainer” and promoted in 1994 to his current position of “signal inspector.” In this job, he supervises a team of maintainers to ensure that trains get proper upkeep and that any problems with service are quickly resolved.
