A jury found Eloy Jiovanni Perez Alcala guilty of capital murder involving a double-homicide, and because the State did not seek the death penalty, the trial court assessed a life sentence. See Tex. Penal Code Ann. § 12.31(a)(2) (West 2011); id. § 19.03(a)(7)(A) (West Supp.2011).
