On September 4, 1998, Dianne B. Rogers, as executrix of the estate of William D. Rogers, deceased, sued Deborah A. McGuire and Dale Pugh ("the defendants"). Rogers alleged that the defendants had, on May 17, 1989, purchased at a tax sale a parcel of property on which the decedent held a mortgage.
