This suit was instituted in the District Court of Mayagüez by Benito Texidor and his wife, Elvira Pulido, and by Benjamin J. Horton and Frederick L. Cornwell against Adolfo Robert Strike, having for its object the cancellation of two mortgages, copies of which are attached to the complaint, on the ground that the said mortgages are usurious and unlawful, having been executed in order to secure loans made at a ■usurious rate of interest — that is to say, a rate higher than 12 per cent per annum, which is the limit allowed by the laws of…
