Pursuant to Code § 37.1-70.6(A), the Commonwealth petitioned the Circuit Court of Prince William County (trial court) to civilly commit Derek Lamont McCloud, a prison inmate, as a sexually violent predator. Subsequently, a jury rendered a unanimous verdict determining McCloud to be a sexually violent predator as defined in Code § 37.1-70.1.
