Despite the complexity of the procurement process in the aerospace industry, sales representatives for the parts manufacturers that an airframe manufacturer selects for participation in a particular program are entitled to commissions on orders for which they are the procuring cause. As with other industries, the standard for the procuring cause doctrine in the aerospace industry is activity that sets in motion the chain of events or negotiations culminating in a sale.
