The plaintiff was a student at the State Normal School. The defendant is president of that institution of learning. The plaintiff sued the defendant in an action of slander. Omitting the formal por*650tions of the declaration, the part which is material here reads:
“The said defendant * * * did falsely, wickedly, and maliciously, in the presence and hearing of others, on or about, the 4th day of December, A. D. 1912, in the city of Ypsilanti, county and State aforesaid, speak and publish the following defamatory words of and concerning the plaintiff, to wit: ‘Don’t you know you (meaning Elizabeth…
