F. B. Webber was prosecuted and convicted before a justice of the peace for running a place of amusement at Garfield Park, in the city of Chicago, by selling tickets to horse-races, without first obtaining a license for the sale of the same, in violation of an ordinance of the city. On appeal to the Criminal Court of Cook county, a trial was had de novo before the court, a jury being waived, and at such trial, the defendant was found guilty, and sentenced to pay a fine of $50 and costs.
