Hoke, J.,
after stating the case: The power of a court having jurisdiction of a cause to suspend judgment temporarily, on conviction of a criminal, for- some special purpose or for some determinate and reasonable period of time, was recognized at common law, and ordinarily obtains at the present day in courts of general jurisdiction and holding terms at stated periods.
