In 1820 a young man, who was known in the community as William L. Stevenson, was living and keeping hotel at a place called Downerville, in the State of Kentucky. He subsequently removed> to Lexington, in that State, and was there engaged in the boot and shoe business for a number of years. He was married at Lexington on May 4, 1834, to one Catherine B. Patrick, -and four children were born of the marriage. A few years after the birth of these children he failed in business and became insolvent, and then his wife and two of the children died.
