POSNER, Circuit Judge.
This diversity personal-injury suit pits two residents of Illinois (Donald Anderson, who died while the case was on appeal, and his widow) against a nonresident corporation, Marathon Petroleum Compa*938ny. The district judge granted a directed verdict for Marathon at the close of the plaintiffs’ case on the ground that the plaintiffs had failed to show a breach of duty by Marathon.
