Mark Douglas O’Toole was convicted by a jury and received a life sentence for the murder of Terrence Carter. For approximately a year and a half, the victim provided the defendant room and board in exchange for housework. The two men argued frequently and the defendant threatened to kill the victim on several occasions. Approximately two months before the murder, the victim told a police officer, investigating a complaint about a domestic disturbance at the victim’s house, that the defendant had tried to kill him.
