Piper Aircraft Corporation has been designing, manufacturing and selling general aviation aircraft and associated spare parts since 1937. Approximately 50,000 to 60,000 aircraft are still operational in the United States. Piper is attempting to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. Following confirmation of a plan, some of these planes will crash. People will be killed or injured. Others will suffer property damage.
