As a speculative investment, presumably, and as a device for sheltering income from taxes, the plaintiffs in these consolidated cases executed standard-form lease and security agreements under which, in exchange for cash and promissory notes, they acquired leasehold interests in plates for *387printing local postage stamps bearing the names of certain small islands off the coast of Scotland.
