I. NATURE OF THE CASE
Defendant, Amir Kando, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and attempted murder of his neighbor, Jason Burley. At his bench trial, defendant raised the insanity defense pursuant to section 6—2 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Code) (720 ILCS 5/6—2 (West 2004)). The trial court found defendant guilty but mentally ill and subsequently sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment. On appeal, defendant makes several contentions.
