Appellant was indicted and convicted of murder in the first degree, and sentenced to be hanged. Sara Barbara Thorsdale, with whose murder the defendant is charged, was twenty-four years of age at the time of her death, which occurred June 2, 1921. She was a teacher in the public schools in the. city of Des Moines, and at the time in question was employed in the Clara Barton school, which building is located in the extreme southwestern part of the city, on Fifty-sixth Street, some distance south of what is known as Park Avenue.
