HAMILTON, District Judge.

In these companion cases the plaintiffs, Jane Doe and her husband John Doe, con*647tend that Jane Doe contracted the human immunodeficiency virus (“HIV”), which causes the deadly acquired immune deficiency syndrome (“AIDS”), from a unit of blood collected and processed by the defendant, American Red Cross Blood Services, S.C. Region (“Red Cross”). The matter is presently before the court on plaintiffs’ motion to compel Red Cross to identify the HIV positive donor whose blood was transfused into Jane Doe during an operation on January 9, 1985.
