This is an original proceeding in mandamus. The question presented is the right of relator to have a trial by jury on a charge pending before respondent in the Municipal Court of Kansas City, Missouri. Relator, on December 16, 1969, was charged with the misdemeanor of obstructing a police officer in violation of a city ordinance. At that time the penalty for violation of that ordinance was a fine of not more than $500 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months, or both.
