CARD AMONE, Circuit Judge:
On a November day in 1986 five men entered a branch of the Chase Manhattan Bank in Queens, New York and robbed it at gunpoint. Eight months later appellant, Edison Purnett, was arrested and charged with being one of the crew that committed the crime. At several court appearances following his arraignment he exhibited unusual behavior leading the district court to direct psychological testing and evaluation of him.
