After Darla J. Yearty badly burned her hand in a kitchen fire, she sued Scott Holder Enterprises ("Holder Enterprises") for installing an allegedly defective smoke detector alarm system that she contends failed to alert her soon enough to the fire. After the trial court granted summary to Holder Enterprises, Yearty appealed, asserting that genuine issues of material fact remain as to whether Holder Enterprises's negligence was the proximate cause of her injuries.
