Petitioner Gerald James Holland (“Holland”) appeals the district court’s order denying him habeas corpus relief from his Mississippi conviction for capital murder and sentence of death. Holland raised five issues in his motion for a Certificate of Appealability (“COA”), and we granted a COA on “the single issue of whether Holland’s rights were violated at his resentencing when he was not permitted to rebut the State’s evidence that he killed [Krystal] King while engaged in the commission of the crime of rape,” as the jury found during the guilt phase of his trial.
