Defendant Johnny Ray Presley was charged by amended information in the circuit court of Adams County with four counts of first degree murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, pars. 9 — 1(a)(1), (a)(2), (aX3)) and one count of attempt (robbery) (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, pars. 18 — 1(a), 8 — 4(a)). After a jury trial, he was convicted on three counts of first degree murder and acquitted of attempt (robbery). He was sentenced to an extended term of 75 years’ imprisonment. He now appeals, claiming error in (1) the trial court’s refusal of his involuntary manslaughter and second degree murder…
