Robert J. Schlau, appellee, filed a petition for a writ of mandamus, to require the City of Chicago, through its proper officers, to assign him to duty as lieutenant of police in the service of the City and to certify his name on the roster and payroll as entitled to the salary of the position, the petitioner having previously been discharged at the direction of the Civil Service Commission.
