On January 11th, 1902, the township committee of Cranbury township, in the county of Middlesex, passed an ordinance authorizing the Hopewell Electric Light, Heat and Power Company to erect poles and wires and other electrical appliances in the public roads and streets of the township, upon obtaining consents of abutting property owners. The ordinance allows to the company one year from its passage within which to complete the plant and put it in operation, on failure of which the provisions of the ordinance are to be void.
