KING, Circuit Judge:

Defendant-appellant Gjon Berisha (Beri-sha) appeals from his conviction for failure to file a currency and monetary instrument report, in violation of 31 U.S.C. § 5316(a), and for making false statements in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1001. The relevant facts in this case are as follows: On February 8, 1989, Berisha proceeded to board an international flight at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. A United States Customs inspector, conducting currency checks of departing passengers, stopped Berisha and asked him whether he was carrying more than $10,000. Berisha…
