HUTCHINSON, Circuit Judge.
Dale M. Preston (Preston) appeals from an enhanced sentence imposed under the Career Criminals Amendment Act of 1986 (Act), Subtitle I of the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986, Pub.L. No. 99-570, § 1402, 100 Stat. 3207-39 to -40 (1986), 18 U.S.C.A. § 924(e) (West Supp.1990). The Career Criminals Amendment Act — which amended the Armed Career Criminal Act of 1984, Pub.L.
