Cordell Andre Montgomery appeals from his conviction for murder, a violation of § 13A-6-2, Ala. Code 1975. Montgomery was sentenced to life in prison. He raises three issues on appeal.

During the late afternoon of December 8, 1997, Montgomery walked into the Jefferson County jail and told sheriff's deputy Wendell Smith, "`I need to turn myself in. I just committed a homicide.'"
