The defendant was indicted for knowingly and willfully striking a uniformed police officer while the officer was engaged in the performance of his duty and causing him bodily injury in violation of G.L. 1956, §11-5-5, 1 as amended by P.L. 1968, ch. 76, sec. 1. He was tried before a justice of the Superior Court sitting with a jury and was found guilty as charged. The case is here, on the defendant’s exceptions to certain rulings by the trial justice during the trial and to the denial of his motion for a new trial.
