delivered the opinion of the court:

Defendant, Kenneth Caldwell, was convicted of forgery (111. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 17 — 3(a)(2) (now 720 ILCS 5/17 — 3(a)(2) (West 1992))). The court sentenced him to two years’ probation and ordered him to pay $5,500 in restitution. Defendant appeals, raising as his sole contention that the trial court erred in ordering restitution in an amount greater than the amount of the forged check charged in the indictment.
