Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant, Dennis Williams, was convicted of murder, aggravated kidnapping, and rape. Defendant was sentenced to death for the murders and to concurrent extended terms of 60 years for each of the remaining offenses. We affirmed over defendant’s contention, inter alia, that he had been denied the effective assistance of counsel. During the pendency of defendant’s petition for rehearing, this court became aware of matters relevant to the claimed ineffective assistance of counsel.
