The rule which prevailed in China and other oriental countries that the father had almost unlimited control over the destinies of his children before and after majority never found a place in the law of England. Nevertheless .the right of the father to the custody and earnings of his minor children was so strictly enforced by the common law that there is hardly any mention of the emancipation of children in the English Reports.
