In 1833, Rose and her children and grand children,in all now numbering thirteen, instituted actions of trespass against Charles Gatliff, &c., claiming them as slaves,, for the purpose of trying their right to freedom. The suits were commenced in the county of Whitley, and the venue afterwards changed to the county of Pulaski, where they were submitted to two juries,, but neither was able to agree upon a verdict.
