In this case, we are called on to determine whether an automobile dealership that fails to verify the existence of a purchaser’s motor vehicle insurance remains liable, as an owner, for the negligent operation of that vehicle. Specifically, we must decide whether defendant Greenfield Jeep Eagle remained the owner of a 1989 Eagle Medallion when it sold the vehicle to Jerome Parker and failed to send a copy of Parker’s insurance coverage to the Secretary of State.
