Appeal from a judgment of the County Court of Rensselaer County (Dwyer, Jr., J.), rendered May 11, 1987, upon a verdict convicting defendant of the crime of murder in the second degree.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. on June 5, 1985, defendant’s adoptive father entered the door and followed a trail of blood to the bottom of the cellar stairs where he discovered the lifeless body of his wife, Lucy Morton, defendant’s adoptive mother, in their home in the Town of Schodack, Rensselaer County.
