LIPEZ, Justice.

Matthew Thompson appeals from the default judgment entered in the Superior Court (Oxford County, Alexander, J.) on the plain tiffs ■wrongful death action. He challenges the court’s denial of a combined motion to set aside a default and for leave to file a late answer. Thompson contends that the evidence before the court established a “good cause” within the meaning of M.R.Civ.P. 55(c). We agree and vacate the judgment.
