FOLLAND, Justice.

Plaintiff sued to recover disability benefits claimed to be due under the total and permanent disability provision of a policy of group life insurance issued by the defendant society to the Union Pacific Railroad Company and its affiliated companies, including the Oregon Short Line Railroad Company by which the plaintiff had been employed. The case was tried to a jury. From a verdict in favor of plaintiff, defendant appeals. The policy in suit contained the following provisions:

“This policy is issued in place of group life insurance policies numbered 5170023; 5170024;…
