The plaintiff sues for a separation of property from her husband, claiming certain slaves in kind, and several sums of money alleged to have been received by the latter during the marriage. To secure the reimbursement of the sums of money, she asks that a legal mortgage on the property of her husband be recognised and enforced. Thomas Mashell, a judgment creditor of the defendant, intervened in the suit, and opposed the wife’s claims.
