At the recent election James J. Barrett, the petitioner, was the Democratic candidate for president of the common council of the city of Syracuse, and Charles G. Hanna was his. opponent upon the Republican ticket. While the board of canvassers are still in session, and have not completed their canvass or made an official statement of the result of the vote for the office in question, an addition of the votes in the various election districts, as shown by the returns filed with the commissioners of election, shows that Mr. Hanna received 26,208 votes, and Judge Barrett 26,166. .
