WOODBURY, Circuit Judge.

This is an appeal by the United States from a judgment entered on the verdict of a jury awarding $121,500 as compensation for a 24.11 acre tract of land in Springfield, Massachusetts, which was condemned and taken by the United States for military purposes. The only question presented is whether the District Court erred in refusing to permit the government’s' expert witnesses on value to state on direct examination what they believed or understood to be the prices paid at about the time of the taking for comparable lands in the area.
