In December 1922, two vacant lots in Berwyn were registered under the Torrens land title system. On February 15, 1927, Frank J. Slifka and Adolphine Slifka, his wife, the then owners of the premises, being indebted in the sum of $5,000, executed and delivered their promissory note for that amount due on or before February 15, 1929, with interest at six per cent per annum payable semiannually, and to secure payment of which they also executed and delivered a trust deed.
