An information was filed in the district court of Shawnee county charging Joseph J. Spendlove with murder in the first degree, in killing and murdering Gustave Werner. He was tried at the September term, 1889, of the district court of said county, convicted of murder in the second degree, and sentenced to imprisonment for the term of 21 years.
