On April 6, 1987, a Cook County grand jury indicted defendant Terry Everett and codefendant Jarvis Hollingsworth for murder, armed violence, conspiracy, and solicitation. Defendant’s first jury trial resulted in a conviction for conspiracy. Yet, the jury was unable to reach a verdict as to the murder count and a mistrial resulted. After a second jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant was convicted of murder and solicitation. He was sentenced to concurrent terms of imprisonment of 40 years for murder (Ill.
