The defendant was clerk of the circuit court for Barron county upon a salary basis under the provisions of ch. 411, Laws of 1901, and a resolution of the county board passed in pursuance thereto by which he was to receive for his services as such clerk a fixed salary in lieu of all fees, per diem, and compensation for services rendered by him or his deputy.
