OPINION

MANNHEIMER, Judge.

In March 2001, Ben Noyakuk shot and killed his girlfriend, Martha Butler. A jury ultimately convicted him of first-degree murder for this homicide.

At Noyakuk’s trial, the State relied on various statements that Noyakuk made to the state troopers about the homicide. Noy-akuk made these statements during a series of interviews that took place at the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center. Noyakuk was incarcerated at this correctional center as a result of his arrest on April 12, 2001 for two misdemeanors and a probation violation, all unrelated to the homicide.
