Danny Herring was indicted and tried for murder in the Circuit Court of the First Judicial District of Hinds County, Mississippi, Honorable William F. Coleman, presiding. The jury returned a guilty verdict of manslaughter and the trial judge sentenced Herring to a term of eighteen (18) years in the Mississippi State Penitentiary.
