Appellants, Randy and Antonia West, 2 bring this appeal from a default summary judgment granted in favor of appellees, Maintenance Tool & Supply Company, Inc. and Rene Rodriguez (collectively “MT”), on West’s claims for workers’ compensation retaliation 3 and defamation. The judgment also awarded MT $21,095.00 in sanctions pursuant to rule 13. See Tex.R. Civ. P. 13.

In five issues, West contends: (1) he did not receive adequate notice of the summary judgment hearing because the notice was unsigned and referred only to a “proposed” date and time for the hearing;…
