Appellant 'applied for a variance to erect a sign at the location of his business in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County, Pa. The township zoning officer denied the application; the zoning hearing board,1 after a hearing, upheld this denial on the grounds that:(1) the sign had a surface area greater than 300 square feet, in violation of section 1507.31. subparagraph 8 of the Bethlehem Township Zoning Ordinance;2
