OPINION

In May 2009, the trial court found defendant, Frederick T. Childs, guilty of attempt (aggravated criminal sexual assault) (720 ILCS 5/8—4(a), 12—14(a)(2) (West 2008)) and later sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
