LYNCH, Circuit Judge.

An intensive-care nurse at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Leeds section of Northampton, Massachusetts (the Leeds VAMC) was convicted of murdering four patients and attempting to murder three others between August 1995 and February 1996 by injecting them with epinephrine, a stimulant that in large doses can trigger heart attacks.
