The property in controversy is the quarter block at the southwest corner of Seventh and Walnut Streets in the city of Des Moines, known as the Masonic Temple block, and described as Lots 7 and 8 in Block 2. The ground was leased by William McClelland to the Masonic Temple Association for 20 years from September 1, 1883. Under this lease, the Masonic Temple Association in 1883 erected on the leased ground a building, which, with additions, is still standing.
